2001:Space Odyssey
Have you seen this movie?
It was released in 1968 and some consider it one of the best movies ever made. Imagine the Hilton Hotel, in space, with a web can operated by putting a card in a slot. 1968!!
The visuals are stunning. This movie is an experience. It is playing downtown at the Cinerama. Don’t miss it! There is only one more week!!!
I want to talk to you about HAL.
HAL is the 9000 series computer who has never made a mistake. He knows everything and at least acts like he has emotions. The odyssey is dependent on him and his “acting out” drives part of the story.
There is a scene that is so perfect for hypnosis.
One of the astronauts goes into HAL’s mainframe, and it is huge. The screen is red and he begins unscrewing the memory slots, one by one.
HAL says, “I am losing my mind, I can feel it.”
Finally HAL is left singing a very old song and there is a fresh start.
