All about US

Filed under: All About Hypnosis @ 2:48 pm

Somehow US magazine showed up in our mailbox this summer. If you are not familiar, think of Parade magazine and go down ten notches.

At first I was appalled. Each week they feature famous women caught wearing the same dress and then they are judged on who looks best. This is the magazine to read if you want to know everything about nothing.

And we all read it! It was every bit as bonding as The Little Engine That Could.

I want to capture the moment at the table as the young ones were doing battle with the voter’s pamphlet. I announce that Brooke Shield’s husband was instrumental in the Paris Hilton FunnyorDie retort to John McCain’s commercial. She memorized her lines and they only had to do four takes.
“How do you know that, MOM?”

“US”

Now picture the college girls watching Sex and the City on DVD. The college boyfriend comes into the room a little too quickly and asks, “Is this the one where Sarah Jessica Parker wears gladiator sandals?”

“How do you know that, JOOORDON?”

“US
addressed to A.K.A Lisa Crunick.”

Now it is time for Crime and Punishment.

Actually Boomsday was my favorite read this summer. A young woman’s anger blogs her generation into outrage over how much the Baby Boomers are costing them in taxes. She gets hooked up with a want-to-be-president, whose platform becomes giving boomers incentives for euthanization to balance the budget. Watch for this to become a movie. I laughed so hard, my “kids” gave me the eye on the ferry. Oh, what it is fun to be the one acting out.

And while we are on favorites, my favorite hike of the summer was a ten miler in Level 1 wilderness with family members, on the occasion of a fiftieth wedding anniversary. My favorite present came in a little green bag. One of my favorite moments was hearing the ten year old boy cousins call my eighteen year old, old!

I hope your summer has a favorite book, kiss, and lots of laughter.

And while I do not want to be known for this kind of information, if you are inclined to have some chocolate ice cream, I am suggesting you go to Full Tilt in White Center, and have a scoop of Mexican chocolate in a biodegradable bowl. They make their own ice cream every Sunday.

Spring for Something New

Filed under: All About Hypnosis @ 7:14 am

Finally, there is some sun, and like me, you are itching to experience something new.

New Event: This is so cool, you can grab a girlfriend or not, and slip into the back door of Quinns, (the place for upscale pub food, featured in last month’s Seattle magazine), for a glass of wine, and then breeze from station to station, as you tempt your senses with all that is good for you:

Aromatherapy, Hypnosis for Weight Loss, EFT, which is an Emotional Freedom Technique for everything! And do you know anything about Fascial Stretch Therapy? or CranioSacral Therapy? or Reiki? I know you have heard of them, but this is a chance to find out what they can do, as you speed date the experts.

How cool is that?

The Laundry Basket is Gone

Filed under: All About Hypnosis, Hypnosis Hour @ 3:54 pm

In last month’s Hypnosis Hour, we worked on Clearing Clutter.

I confessed to the group that part of my motivation for offering the class was the laundry basket that kept reappearing in my bedroom.
As part of sending my baby off to college, I had redone my bedroom, but still the “mom’s room laundry basket” hadn’t disappeared. Even if the clothes are clean, I do not want to sleep with a laundry basket in my room.
Well,a few days after class, as I was emptying it, the daughter and came in asked if she could have it for her dorm room. Well sure, you betcha.

Then I called my friend and fellow hypnotist-friend Gail Sotnik. I call her the room genius. She can take whatever is available, and I have seen it be not much, and still, she can create a whole new look.

I know to get out of her way, be quiet, and yet be ready to “hold something” or “fetch”. Yea, she is that good!
She surveyed my room and asked, “What do you want to accomplish?”

“I want to lose the utilitarian feel of this room. I am looking for fun!”

Well, she did her magic, and I now wake up wondering if I am on a ship headed for a tropical island.

There is not a laundry basket in sight!!!!
So if I am the practitioner, why did I get so much from the session on Clearing Clutter?

There is something with EFT we call Borrowing Benefits. Whether I am tapping on someone, or they are tapping on themselves, or any one of us is watching the process, the inevitable happens: we go inside to check our own stories. Our perception begins to change and change begins to happen. How cool is that?

During hypnosis hour, one of the topics which emerged was the tendency to hold on to things out of fear. We never know when we might need it.

The second biggest reason was obligation. If someone I care about gave it to me, I need to keep it even if I don’t like it! Surrounding yourself with things you keep out of guilt, is a heavy existence.

My favorite book is Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui by Karen Kingston. Other authors have followed her. Perhaps most famous is Clean Sweep by Peter Walsh. He expands on the relationship between weight and clutter.
The important questions are,”Do you love it?” and “Are you using it?”

One participant reported that she had been getting rid of stuff like crazy, including three raincoats.

The next Hypnosis Hour topic is: Losing Your Resistance to Exercise?

Does Positive Changes Work for Weight Loss?

Filed under: All About Hypnosis @ 11:20 pm

Someone called me yesterday and asked the question, “Does Positive Changes work?”

If you don’t know, Positive Changes is a Hypnosis Center in Bellevue,Washington,

and while they do hypnosis for many things, I believe they specialize in weight loss.

I had to bite my tongue, because the caller’s question brought up a family story.

My younger brother has muscular dystrophy and uses a wheelchair. One day while we were watching TV, someone with a disability was playing the piano.

My friend’s brother asked my brother,

“What’s wrong with him?”

I could feel my brother prickle as he answered,

” What?”…………… “Do I look like an expert on afflictions?”

On the same note, while I am an expert on using hypnosis for weight loss, I am not in the position to know if Positive Changes would work for a stranger who calls me on the phone.

The answer is that to make quick and lasting change you need to get your subconscious mind on your side. There is no one way to do this.
Anyone who has repeated affirmations to no avail, or started a diet of any kind, only to quit in two days, or a week, knows that willpower is not always enough.
Katie Evans, with the Living Lite weight loss program, uses the analogy of
the mouse and the elephant. The mouse is the conscious mind, and makes the “plans for change”. The subconscious mind is the elephant. Elephants are not only big, they are extremely intelligent.

The subconscious mind will take “canned directions” if it has no reason not to, and the reason not to, may well seem irrational.

The subconscious mind is in business to keep you safe. And when you do not understand your own resistance, it may be following safety procedures that you have outgrown.

This is when you need a practitioner to work with you on your presenting set of circumstances as change can happen very quickly.

There are many tools available to create change: hypnosis, NLP, Thought Field Therapies like EFT, ESM, and EMDR.

Many people like to work with someone who has the flexibility to adjust the treatment to their particular set of circumstances. Contrary to what you have seen in the movies or a Road Runner cartoon, a hypnotist does not wave a watch and gain control of your mind.
I told the caller to do her research by making calls, and asking questions, and then to follow her instincts.

Feeling comfortable with your hypnotist is important.
Some people are going to feel more comfortable in a group, following a certain program, and other’s are more receptive to individualized sessions. Some like the combination of both.
I know hypnosis, NLP, EFT, and all work. I am not in the position to know which practitioner or program would work for you, but I am very happy to offer you a free twenty minute phone consultation to answer any of your questions. 206-941-1287
